Moving into a new home often comes with a flood of Vastu advice — some of it genuinely useful, some of it wildly impractical for a modern apartment. Here are ten corrections that address common Vastu concerns without any construction at all.
1–3: Entrance and Direction
Where possible, use the main entrance consistently rather than a side or back door for daily movement — this is a placement habit, not a construction change. Keep the entrance area well-lit and uncluttered, since a blocked or dark entry is a common Vastu concern regardless of the home's actual direction. If your main door faces a less favourable direction structurally, a small threshold correction (a specific placed item at the base) is often suggested instead of altering the door itself.
4–6: Kitchen and Bedroom Layout
The kitchen is traditionally best placed in the southeast, but if yours isn't, repositioning the stove within the existing kitchen (ideally so you cook facing east) is a common, non-structural correction. For bedrooms, sleeping with your head toward the south or east (not north) is one of the most frequently suggested adjustments, and it only requires moving furniture. Mirrors facing the bed are traditionally discouraged — repositioning or covering one at night addresses this without any renovation.
7–8: Pooja Room and Clutter
A dedicated pooja space ideally sits in the northeast corner of the home; if that's not possible, a small, clean, well-lit corner used consistently for this purpose is a reasonable adjustment. General clutter — especially under stairs or in the northeast zone — is considered a drag on positive energy flow in Vastu, and simply clearing it is one of the easiest corrections available.
9–10: Colour and Water Placement
Lighter, calming colours in the northeast and heavier or darker tones in the southwest are a traditional Vastu colour guideline that only requires paint, not construction. Water features or the water storage area (an overhead tank, for instance) are traditionally best placed in the northeast, and where that's not physically possible, keeping that zone visually light and open is the suggested compromise.
